Intrepid Potash Mine; Moab, Utah

I discovered this while flying over Utah in a commercial plane in June 2007, then made a special trip back to photograph it up close from a rented Cessna in August.

The colors change over the course of each summer. Early on, they are all really deep shades of blue, and by the fall, they turn white and purple.

See detailed abstractions on my photo page.

In the Aerial Wonder photo essay.

I actually rented from Grand Junction, Colorado. Partly because I was coming from Denver and didn't want to drive as far, and partly because they seemed to be more clued in about how to deal with aerial photography than the folks at Moab.

Great story aloong with these photos. Makes me want to go out and hire a plane as well. I had a chance to fly endless hours over the Venezuelan Amazon for very cheap, and passed it by to chase an object of affection. Still regretting it.
