Old Plantation Guest House
There is a very old plantation (one of the first in the colonies) in Virginia called the Berkley Plantation (pronounced Barkley). In its time the plantation hosted the literal big wigs in politics prior to and during the American Revolutionary War. During the American Civil War, the estate hosted over 100,000 union troops and was visited twice by then President Lincoln to address those troops.
To walk the grounds of this plantation is to walk back in time where inches below your feet may be old bullets, shards of ewers a servant dropped while performing her duties or even the faded footprints of a future president, two of which the family of this land produced as well as a Governor.
This image portrays the odd combination of refined architecture and old-world rot. The guest house stands next to the manor and is in the process of being restored.
