gnarly
This is, by far, one of my favorite trees. It is a VERY old Japanese Maple, carefully cared for at a local arboretum.
I go to visit a few times a year, or more, and with each season it becomes even more beautiful.

No, this is a very old Japanese Maple in a local Baltimore arboretum...and it's "that tree" for me because it's a fave :-)
