With Warm Thoughts of Sympathy

My father passed away from cancer when I was in college. This piece is part of a project I did that helped me through the grieving process while being away at school.

The image was created by shooting a roll of 35mm film twice through the camera for the double exposed, overlapping frame effect. For the first pass through I photographed things from my childhood that have memories associated with my dad. On the second pass through I photographed things from the present as a contrast against the innocence of childhood.

No photoshop - direct scan from a darkroom print.
