The Flower of the Night
There is a cactus that grows in my yard. During winter it stores water and grows tall and lanky. But when spring comes it puts out flowers that are pure white. During the day the flowers wither away burnt by the effulgence of the sun.
To set up this shot I had to wait till the flower opened to its full size. I set my flash to SL to soften the lighting effect. This gave the petals a feathery effect and intensified the stamins within the flower's center.
Then I set the camera to shoot macro. Didn't want to risk moving the camera during the shoot so I set it upon a tripod.
