this is perfect for the fanatic theme. i like that the subject, the "fanatic" herself takes up so little of the picture while her collection, the thing that makes her a fanatic, overwhelms (in a good way) the rest of the image area.

Great! Stephanie said it well. I also like the geometric element. I can see there is still room for more of her fanatic collection :-) Yeah!

Thanks to all for your encouragement!!!
With 65 favorites, 1,550 views and 229 yeahs thus far, I was fairly confident that Mao Memorabilia had a shot at Issue 14.
Alas, I just received the dreaded message "Sometimes truly awesome photos don't get selected because they're not quite right for the theme, or don't quite fit in the magazine's limited pages."
Thanks again to everyone. Based on all your comments, I will be including this image as a full-page spread in my upcoming book of photography "CHINA: Portrait of a People." Look for it! -

this is an amazing shot! and it looks like it did make it to the issue! i got a rejection letter on my 'ghost rider' image for 'on the go' category and i was totally bummed :( congrats on the book tho!
