This is my 8 yr. old Labrador Dixie.
She's very ill right now, and I'm posting this as a dedication to her.
Dixie... This one's for you. :)
Update/Edit:

I hope she gets well soon. Our Sophie has Addison's. You can find her on my flickr site if you want a picture. We think she's a Treeing Walker Coonhound, but were not sure. She was a rescue.

I love this dog portrait. It has a sort of human quality to it, very noble. I empathize with your plight during her illness. The Collie "Rocky" in one of my photos just passed away quietly last week. He wasn't mine but was "like family". Rocky was very old. I think I'll post a tribute to him. Here's to Dixie that she may pull through for a few more years!

What a handsome pup. I like the high key treatment and the offset composition. Left side viewed is a bit hot but it adds to the impact of the portrait.

Aww poor thing. It's sad when unfortunate events happen to beautiful creatures.
-
Benjamin Peacock said (8 Jan 2008):
Beautiful. Love the way you used left side view! Negative space is proportional, and the highlights are fantastic. Light on the left side with left side view is fantastic! The image seems to fade away as the eye moves right. Very good use of emotional aspect!
