where the stairs used to be
in the midst of a few hundred acres filled with farms and livestock, we spot a house no longer a home. she shifts her weight onto the rotting, wooden place where the stairs used to be, peering down into the tangle of grasses, weeds, and thistle. the underbrush slowly merges into a river of overgrown, sun scorched wheat.
