the sweetest stranger

I had an assignment for school to photograph 25 willing strangers under the same conditions with the same background. So I went to the pier in Santa Barbara and set up my gear (just camera, tripod and diffusion panel). The concept (if you can call it that) was to photograph 2 "half faces" for each person - one serious and/or detached and one with the person giving me some sort of expression. This man passed me, and I thought he had so much character in his face, so I asked him if he would be one of my models. He sweetly said that he wasn't feeling very well that day, but if it would be quick that would be fine. I said he didn't have to, especially since he wasn't feeling well, but he said it was no problem. After the first shot (the serious one), I asked if he'd mind giving me a little smile. And he gave me this one - so kind, so genuine. I adore this guy.
