Dragging fire

This photo was taken on a wildfire in southern Florida. This firefighter was a member of the Bonneville Hotshot Crew that was assisting in a burn out operation.
The firefighter is carrying a drip torch which helps set fire. The fire is used as a strategy to burn up areas that are well ahead of the main fire in a controlled manner, so that when the main fire gets to the area it is slowed down or stopped from advancing. A hotshot crew is a group of 20 men and women who travel across the nation during fire season assisting with fire suppression.
