Volcanic Ruins

Mount Mayon is a perfectly formed, active volcano on the island of South Luzon. In 1814, Mt. Mayon erupted and devastated the surrounding communities. This is what remained of the Cagsawa church, whose bell tower has remained standing as a mute testimony of the enormous disaster caused by flowing lava.

It is always so interesting to see the growth that starts up in such barren places, in unexpected places. Note the plants growing on top of the bell tower.
