The Young Man and the Sea

Photographed this fisherman surf casting off Beavertail Point in Jamestown, RI on a foggy morning. The Holga really captured the essence of the scene in a way that no digital camera could.
Waders, a surf casting rod, a bucket of bait - tools of the fisherman's trade. Thematically, the fisherman’s smallness is contrasted with the vast ocean. He looks out into the abyss waiting for the perfect moment for his next cast.
You can purchase this, and other photos of mine at mylatehope.imagekind.com.
Created using my girlfriend's Holga 120S with 4 year expired AGFA RSX-II (iso 200) slide film cross processed with C-41. Photo scanned with an HP Scanjet 4890. No digital manipulation used!
In the story Expired Film - The Tool of My "Trade".

This is image is very peaceful and beautiful. I'm very surprised because of the grain. I've used a Holga with expired AGFA RSX-II and my photos didn't have it. Maybe it's because of the scanner you used.

the print thats hanging on my wall that my pro photo lab made from the negative has the same lines, so its not the scanner. if you look at this photo on my imagekind account, that is the actual tiff scan from the lab and it has these same lines. most of the photos/negatives that i have scanned with my scanner do not have these lines, but some do. in some photos you can see the lines faintly, in others the lines are more pronounced. either way, its definately not the scanner. did you cross process the RSX or process it as slide film (E-6)? this was cross processed with C-41 which does bad (I would say beautiful) things to the negative, including adding contrast & screwing up the colors

This is a great shot... I have started experimenting with 35mm expired film. I have a few really neat photos so far... looking like old newpaper clippings. it's a lot of fun!

I missed this one. What a great shot! One of my camera stores in the 70's was in Fall River, MA near Tiverton, RI. I got a lot of business from the Rhode Island School of Art and Design.
