While taking an early morning ride on a bus in Guadalajara I took my camera out to take a photo of the Virgin etching behind the bus driver. As I was about to snap the photo a young girl stepped on the bus. The clash of beauties is fascinating to me: ancient vs. modern, cherished religious mores vs. secular fashion.
The Juxtaposition of the young girl and the Virgin was starkly evident to me. Both are tilted inward toward each other; the background light from the sunny day skirts the young woman's torso in a similar fashion that the brilliance of the Virgin's aura does; and the girl is in a classic pose of blessing while she hands the bus driver her money.
