It is easy to spot the impact of humans in all of the new construction that seems to have descended upon our suburban nation like a plague... I thought it was interesting, though, to see the truly lasting impact we have, long after our buildings, put up with big plans and grand ideas, are abandoned and left for nature to reclaim. This structure, one of only a few remaining in a ghost town near Death Valley in Nevada, has not seen people walking through its halls or peering through its windows in many, many years. And although nature has come a long way towards tearing the building down, reclaiming its natural landscape one storm and one falling brick at a time, it will be many years yet before this desert view will be appreciated without a reminder of the lasting impact of human ambition. Even long after the dreams have died.

That would be the Cook Bank building in Rhyolite Nevada, once the largest city in the state. The town was a major scam in that they "seeded" the mines with gold. They blasted shotgun shells loaded with gold against the surface of the mines interior. In turn they sold share of interest in the what the mine would bear, which of course it never did. It all came crashing down. One of the great ghost towns of the American West. This is an excellent treatment of this subject and the clouds add depth. Thanks for sharing.
