A Moment in the Cold

The air was cold and still and it stung our lungs as we trudged up the hill, our feet sinking an inch or two into the half-frozen mud. I could feel the fog against my skin: tiny droplets of fresh mountain water, dancing around us like gentle whispers, mingling with our warm, cider-scented breath. I turned to see my lovely sister standing there, drinking in the thick silence of a christmas tree forest. I pulled the camera out of my bag, and with frozen hands, stole this wondrously warm moment from the cold.
