Man's Best Friend

My mom and dad are both in bed.
One wearing shoes, one barefoot.
One on back, one on stomach, lying different directions.
Our dog in the middle.
Family portraits hang on the wall above a rocking chair that nobody uses.
An American Gothic for the 21st Century.
