We took a cablecar ride to this point in the Alps which was an achievement for someone with my head for heights, to go over the summit we would have had to go in one of these "birdcages". However on this day they were not in opperation due to the bad weather. Would I have done it? I don't know!! I'm glad the decision was taken out of my hands as I would have never forgiven myself if I had not been brave enough..

The best way to overcome a fear is head on...I over came my fear of heights by climbing to the top of a lighthouse years ago...I freaked out the entire way up and could not breathe; but completely over came my fear! Excellent capture btw, Eithne!

I had a horrible fear of taking a quad lift in Colorado one year. I felt like I was going to fall and we were way up high. The foot bar did not come up to my feet and the shoulder bar did not come down enough to make me feel secure, I just knew that I was going to die on that lift that day. Obviously I didn't die, I did survive it, but barely ... on getting off my husband & I accidentally crossed our ski tips and down we went, they had to stop the lift to get us untangled and on solid ground. Then I took one look back at the "easy" trail that we were to ski down and nearly fainted, it was STEEP. I tried it and I locked up, couldn't make another tight turn, my legs were trembling so that I couldn't go any further. I ended up going down on a snowmobile with a ski patrolman. Now that's the way to go!!! I swore that I would never ski again and I won't, but I think I would go on a snowmobile outing : )

I am so glad you went up. This is an amazing shot. The heights would not bother me but the cold would have sent me running home.
