Perugian Shutters

The layout of the ancient city of Perugia, the capital city of the Italian region of Umbria, includes evocative squares and torturous winding streets and stairs between stone houses lining the various levels of the city. Atop a hill that’s 493 meters above sea level, from above, Old Town Perugia appears star-like. The original ancient walls of the city date back to when it was an Etruscan stronghold. More walls were built during the 14th century, encircling the hamlets that became a part of this once powerful city. I captured this descending street scene from off one of the main piazzas.
