PANDEMICS
Over the years there have been several pandemics.
1. SPANISH FLU 1918
2. FORT DIX OUTBREAK 1976
3. RUSSIAN FLU 1977 – 1978
4. AVIAN FLU (BIRD FLU) 1997
5. S.A.R.S. 2003
6. 2009 H1N1 SWINE FLU Present
2009 H1N1 PANDEMIC
This is called the SWINE FLU as it is similar to the viruses that usually occur in pigs. This strain is an unusual mixture of human influenza and swine influenza viruses. A virus with this particular genetic makeup has not been found previously to be circulating in pigs or in humans. Because this virus is very different from our usual seasonal flu many people will not have immunity against it.
It is thought to spread through the coughs and sneezes of people who are sick with the flu. You may be able to infect others from 1 day before getting sick to about 7 days after getting sick.
Use common precautions to prevent infection such as:
…Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
…wash hands often
…avoid touching your eyes nose and mouth.
…STAY home if you are sick.
…Avoid contact with anyone that is sick
…Do not drink after any one.
…Avoid close contact with anyone that has the flu symptoms.
So how do you know if you're sicker than you should be? Here are situations in which you need to get medical help.
… DO NOT PANIC
…You have trouble breathing
…fever, vomiting, diarrhea
…confusion
... lethargy
..or a rash
There are vaccinations in two forms available for the prevention of H1N1.
A Nasal Spray Vaccine and the Shot. It is recommended by the CDC that you get both the regular seasonal flu shot and one for the H1N1 Flu.

Karen, this is an excellent photo. The mask and the eyes express alarm, but not hysteria. Our colleagues should listen to their doctors, not talk show hosts on whether or not to be immunized.

I totally love the colors here, I'm not sure why. Maybe the orange with the yellowa and you. This is kind of strange comment, I'm sure. Good that posting comments are not contagious because for several weeks now, I've been coughing accompanied by headache that goes from my head to my neck and have difficulty breathing. No, I don't have swine flu. Have my flu vaccine for the first time since my younger days. I have an appointment to see a doctor today.Hope everything is just ok. Thank you for this timely advice. This is awesome and terrific!

Great shot and thanks for the info. Your expression surely reflects the emotion many are feeling as they listen to the news on TV. I am suprised that I don't see more people wearing masks like the Chinese did during the SARS epidemic.

One of my guys was on a service call and he coughed. They threw him out of the building and told to go to the emergency ward at the hospital. And we wonder why health ins is so high. I told him to go to the doctors. He went to the doctors and was told he could return to work. If he went to the hospital his bill would probably been about $1000.00 (covered under my ins plan) rather then about $80.00 including the co-pay. People don't understand!!! It always cost money from somewhere and that increases insurance, state, or fereral costs. I pay $971.00 mth per person and $2710.00 per family. Yes we have top quality health care and no I do not want Govt run health care.
