Building Houses

Hot! In Urban

This is my favorite photo of Arthur Clayton. I'm not sure why.

Each one of us is on a great journey, much as Arthur is...in the end, we all need the same simple things. I often wonder if people like Arthur have figured out some secret the rest of us don't understand. After all, a home is comprised of much more than four solid walls. No, our true houses are uncontainable and cannot be confined in so small a space. The places where we truly live do not come with numbers or locks. I think it is in casting off the locks, and tearing down the walls, that we find ourselves. To Arthur, and to all of our "houses". May our journeys lead us home.

PS-Watching these videos and listening to these songs reminds me how much I love each of you. I don't know...I'm feeling mushy...

Kathleen, I was a Rotarian for many years and fed quite a few of Nashville's "street people" from the back of a truck. They had to meet their nutritional needs, of course, but it was a mistake to think that their emotional needs had to be fed, as well. Many of the people I met were quite satisfied with their lives, and I suspect that Arthur is, too. Some were disturbed, of course, but most were not. They had a quiet dignity about them. I know that many of us on the back of that truck admired many of the friends we had met living under the bridges. [Mushy is always good thing, K.]

There is nothing wrong with being a little mushy at times. This is a terrific capture of your friend. I don't think a house could be a home unless the people that make it so are there.
