For Margaret
Last week we took our church youth group apple picking to the next town over and had a GREAT time. All the years I've lived in the area, I've never visited this farm and was so happy to finally discover it.
I freshly picked Cortland apples direct from the tree for the FIRST time in my life for use in making apple pie. My grandmother told me several years ago when I gave her a slice of the first pie I'd ever baked, that it tasted EXACTLY like my great grandmother's apple pie recipe. When she asked me what apples I'd used, I told her Cortlands (which I'd happened to decide on my own that I liked best in the recipe). She told me that those were the ONLY apples my great grandmother used in her pies.
I definitely felt like a part of my past was reaching through to guide me. So this pic is for Great Grandma Dexter.

Love the photo and the story that goes with it! I remember your photos on making apple pie! I could smell and taste your apple pie, yummy, Natallie! I hope your kids will learn it to, so it can be passed from generation to generation....
