The Possum On The Fence ~ for Jeff Ore
I had seen a picture Jeff Ore did the other day and wondered why I never saw the Opossums come in the yard. They are there each night, but never when I am around. What a surprise I saw tonight. There it was. A medium size possum just sitting there on the back fence. I was about to let the dogs out, but knew that would scare it. I went to get my camera, knowing it would be long gone by the time I got back. Well, there it sat. It had a patch of missing hair on its back, so I suppose it had been in a fight. It is probably a young male. I began snapping. It did not move. Then all of the sudden he gave a big yawn. Not sure if it was my company or it was just plain tired. It stayed there for several minutes as I moved around to get closer. After a few minutes I went in. I later looked out again and saw it was gone.
Perhaps it just wanted a bit of company.
These are very elusive creatures and both wild ainmals. Thats why both of these pictures are so special. :-)

We have had a lot of little critters at JPG this fall; this is an instant favorite.

Beautiful shot. Was it taken at night with flash?

This is a really good capture, Gloria. Our dog chases them out of the yard every now and then, but I have never been able to photograph any.
