Beijing, China
Not unlike Gregor Samsa in Franz Kafka's 'Metamorphoses,' Beijing awoke one morning from anxious dreams to discover it had become a soft-shelled insect, melancholic and impractical, as most metropolises are; too big to upright itself despite frantic wriggling, though not without its charm and general suspicions, excessive drowsiness or strong appetites.
