Pele's Dream
This was the longest light painting ever. It took 5 hours from start to finish. I painted the model in foreground with flashlight, outlined her with chemilume sticks, set fire to paper towels soaked in gasoline, climbed over sharp lava rock with model to rear position and lit a sparkler behind her and then when coming back to camera to release locked open shutter on a moonless night, I set more fires and fired a flash unit with blue color gel in various locations. The image began at dusk and the lens was blocked while locked open while waiting for complete darkeness to finish the shot. Model: Melanie. Recorded at La Perouse Maui Hawaii in 1990.
