This is a portrait of my mother taken the last time I visited her. She is in a nursing home in Ohio, and no longer knows me. She is in the last stages of this devastating illness. She may not remember me, but I have MANY memories of her. She loves for someone/anyone to talk to her, and still offers a smile. I miss my Mom.....she's already gone you know.

This is a beautiful portrait. I really love your title. I think it is important to put a face to many things that happen in this world. It makes it more real to those who have not experienced it for them selves. Your mother is beautiful and this is a wonderful portrait of her. I see kindness in her beautiful eyes.

Thank you so much, Regenia. She does have a certain sweetness still left in her blue eyes. I hope people will begin to understand that Alzheimer's really is "the long goodbye."

Very touching entry. I know exactly what you're going through. My Daddy was gone at least a year before he departed this earth.... Voted.

Usually I write Oh YEAH! Rad! when I vote, but it seems a little inappropriate. The photo is excellent and I'm voting.

Oh I am so sorry about your sweet mother...I had a beloved Aunt who had been a school teacher and some years after she retired from teaching she developed Alzheimers which progressively became worse. It was so sad to see the decline..She is no longer here nor is her husband who took care of her until he could longer do it... but I know the heartbreak of this illness. My vote and my sympathy. God bless you.

I love the way you softened this shot. It gives the illusion of fading. So appropriate for your words and your entry. My grandmother was a victim of Alzheimer's too.
