the one that got away [99 luft ballons]
Roosevelt Island, a narrow island in the East River of NYC, lying between the island of Manhattan to its west and the borough of Queens on Long Island to its east. There was something about this place that freaked me out. It could have been the Brutalist architecture or the ruins of a mental asylum, a smallpox hospital and a laboratory for bacteriological research... or a red balloon caught in a small whirlwind.
