This tower, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was constructed in 1932 for the instruction of submarine escape techniques. It was used for this purpose until 1983 when it was drained and converted into a crow’s nest conference room by Rear Admiral Jack Darby. The room at the top of the tower is called, “The House that Jack Built.”
During WWII, all the crews from all the boats that went to war from Pearl Harbor trained in this tower. That’s many brave men…many returned, and many are “still out on patrol.”

My father served in the Pacific during WWII, when we were at Pearl, it was very moving for me, thinking of him as a young man in the Navy. He was never stationed out of Pearl... his home port was Norfolk!
