Each spring, these birds migrate up the Pacific coast from the interior of Mexico all the way up to southern Alaska. By mid-summer, they make their return trip south along the eastern portion of the Rocky Mountains, which takes them through my home area during July and August.

    Thanks for the comments, everyone. Karen, although I am sometimes motivated to go to great lengths to get a good shot, I have not yet gone so far as to disguise myself as a flower. Thankfully, a long lens, a little cropping and a major dose of good luck were enough to get the job done.
