Together, Forever, Or At Least For 10 Minutes
He's 12 1/2. She's 16 1/2. Brother and sister. It should be easy to make photos of them together. They don't spend an awful lot of time together and are genuinely happy to see one another whenever they can. But put them in a photo situation and the session turns a little dark.
Still, I did manage to talk them into a few photos with "this is for grammy and papa! They'll love it!" And thus I got a ten minute window to elicit semi-smiles and gentleness (if that's what it could be called) from the two.
One of the best moments was when I asked the kids to take a seat on this bench. My son got into the corner, figuring his sister would take the opposite corner. She surprised us by sitting down practically on top of her brother. After scooting her over, she then watched he brother affect a look of ennui. She tried her hardest to adapt the same look. I have images of her staring at his fingers and trying to work hers into a similar configuration. In the end, it was close enough. And I got my shot.
Little Brother? Ended up with a major wedgie, unfortunately.
But I still have the shot!
