Where I live, the line between the priviledged class and the serving class is largely drawn along ethnic lines which preserves a kind of barrier between us. We cannot, even for a minute, forget what side we're on and which side we'll be returning to at the end of each encounter.
At the best of times, both sides pretend the barrier does not exist, but in Marin County, the cost of living is second only to Manhattan and the barrier is always there between us in every aspect of our lives.
