Inside the Great Wall looking out

On my trip to China in October 2008 I climbed up a leg of the Great Wall just outside of Beijing. There are guard outposts/turrets.

From inside one of these posts I got this photo at sunset with just enough light leaking inside for a slight bit of detail on the side walls while showing the height and colors of the coming fall outside. It's tough to see on screen but if you move your head around you'll see the bricks to the outside of the image

While I took many photos looking at the wall from outside just like everyone who's been there, I found this view more interesting since I've only ever seen photos of the Great Wall from outside. This perspective and depth caught my attention and handheld was no easty feat.

In the Thank you China photo essay.

Also in the story The Right Gear.

:D Thank you so much. I found this view irresistable as I ran up and down the wall. I'm glad you like it and thank you for commenting.

You ran up and down the wall? I could barely walk... ran out of gas quickly. Good shot!

LOL! Yes I ran .. except for the steps I actually had to climb due to their height. My knees were killing me on the way down. I was carrying about 40lbs of equip the entire trip. I didn't want to leave it on the bus.. so I guess it was my workout.
    Thank you
