My sister and I were visiting Yosemite and I asked her to hold the huge lodgepole pine cones to show the folks back home.

Those are beautiful cones, but they are not Lodgepole cones (Pinus contorta)! Rather they are Sugar Pine cones (Pinus lambertiana), some of the largest if not THE largest cones in the world. Lodgepole cones on the other hand are some of the smallest pine cones. Just thought you might like to know, keep on enjoying the wonderous beauty of pine cones! :)
