While in Washington DC for the Presidents Inauguration in Jan 2009 we stopped by the National Police Memorial where many of our friends names are inscribed. Heros are memorialized here. This photo holds little interest unless you know the story of these two officers standing there. Both Officers were involved in seperate shootings that killed their friend. They stood apart from the other officers. Only those warriors, Soldiers and Police who have faced death, who have seen death up close, will truely understand what is happening here at this moment. Heros are human beings, unwillingly thrust into situations that they wished they could run from, what makes them heros is that they don't run,no matter how terror stricken they may be, they stand their ground.Heros come in all shapes and sizes, and no matter their political or religious beliefs, If they they stand and hold their ground for the good of their fellow human being then they become heros. Teachers in classrooms, Firefighters and volunteers who risk all to help others. There is no way to say who will be a hero. Only that moment when the need arises will you then know. Unlike so many other folks ,these two will never be the same. They will forever have the moment etched in their mind. Only the end of time will erase the memory.
