"It rained for almost two weeks straight that spring. I knew it was for the best, for the plants and flowers and all. At night I would lay in bed listening to the heavy raindrops plinking on the roof like a cruel lullaby. Late in the afternoon one day, the rain stopped and the sun came out. It drew me outside, calling like a long lost friend. I stepped out into the dooryard and at my feet rested a carpet of rose colored petals."
