In an all-too-brief photo hike around a lake, I wound up stalking a great blue heron as it sought its morning meal. Time after time I spooked the beautiful bird, as it would take flight and move ahead of my path and I would catch up to it around the next bend. The final time came after it had caught and swallowed its prey --a good-sized fish-- witnessed but not well photographed. As the heron rose from the shallow water and winged out across the lake, I fired off my last few images of the morning and this was the result. A fine memory of a morning well spent.
