Unfortunately this was a fatality. The driver of the truck did not stop when the signal flashed. He beat the barricade but not the train.

You have to wonder what could be so important to risk this happening. The answer, of course, is "nothing". I feel sadness for his family. A very sobering reminder to all of us, and a perfect entry for the theme.

This is a good example of photojournalism as it tells the story without any words. As tragic as your caption is I would have guessed (unless the driver got out first) this would be a fatal crash. My great grandfather was killed by a train when he told his son to "beat the train." It was a tie. Luckily, my grandfather survived with several broken bones.
My only minor suggestion would be to crop the right side just enough to get the upper portion of the gate or pipe out of the frame as it wants to pull my eye away from the tragic shot you captured.
I work as a freelance writer and photojournalist myself. -

How sad for the driver and his family. Too bad he had to try to beat the train. Maybe seeing this photo will cause someone else to think twice when wanting to beat a train and just wait until it is gone before crossing.

Good thing the truck driver is dead, he wont get another chance to wreck another train driver's life.
Trains never face 'give-way' signs at grade crossings. Road vehicles do. -
