Getting into Pi
Napa Valley College student Alex Pader won the pie eating contest, finishing off an entire cherry pie. The pie-eating event was held in "celebration" of Pi Day, March 14. The Pi/Pie event took place early on March 12 while school was still in session for the week. Pi Day is in honor of the irrational number "pi" which results when calculating the ratio of a circles diameter to its circumference. To date, the number has been calculated out to more than a trillion places. One NVC student correctly recited 102 places by memory in a contest.

Personal choice, I'd guess. And a flair for the dramatic. And he did win, for what that's worth. And from what I understand, had a massive sugar rush that ran him around campus like 20 cups of espresso.
