Dr. Steven Fawl, Napa Valley College professor, takes a pie in the face in "celebration" of Pi Day, March 14. The Pi/Pie event took place early on March 12 while school was still in session for the week. Pi Day is in honor of the irrational number "pi" which results when calculating the ratio of a circle's diameter to its circumference. To date, the number has been calculated out to more than a trillion places. One NVC student correctly recited 102 places by memory in a contest.
