Hip Hop artiste
The hip hop artistes were full of expression and wonderful to photograph.
But not easy. They kept moving about. This would not have been an issue if I used a wide-angle lens and shot the entire stage. But as I mentioned in my 10 Tips essay, On Stage Photography "a landscape approach misses the point."
When artistes are so full of expression, you want to zoom in close to capture the full details of their expressions. But pointing - let alone focusing - a 300mm lens on a fast-moving hip hopper is a problem indeed.
There were three of them on stage over the weekend, during the Noise Festival at The Esplanade.
I took 44 shots of just this guy alone. This was the 4th and by far the best shot. The rest did not come close. As for his two fellow artistes, I took about another 30 shots and do not even have one worth showing.
In the story My precious "uptight" lens and the story On Stage Photography.
