When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a tintype or some sort of photo from the early 1900's. The grandson has that sort of stiffness from early photographs. It's not a *bad* thing - I think this photograph is great *because* of that. The open door, the stillness of the subjects gives the photograph the feeling of a painting.
