Sculptors Desk on a Winter Afternoon in KrishNaNagar, West Bengal,India
All these figures are made of mud (pure alluvial soil). since the soil is soft it is very easy to shape them in any form you like. These are all done by hand ,with greatest care. This is purely a cottage industry and some of the sculptors are very famous for their handiwork. These sculptors are not rich but they live , work and die for art. Interestingly most or almost all of them do not sign their work...very different from the global 'brand conscious art' world that we know where billions of dollars are played. Is the joy of creating a good work, art ?
