Getting down low with a Locust
Driving back from Canberra I ran into a number of low-density locust swarms causing substantial carnage with the large-fronted Ford Transit van that I was driving. When I came to a road-side truck parking area I could not help but pull over and take some images. To take these I got down really low. lying on my belly, and crept very slowly closer.
For these images i used the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm F2.8G. Supporting the camera on the ground I could get up to f29. When hand-held I had to open up, which resulted in the shallow field of focus (incl. this image)
