Winston Baltasar said (5 Dec 2008):
Apologies to those who have commented and voted on this photo. I reread the rules and they do state that the photo should be of my home. I misunderstood when I read that we should "capture a home close to your heart."
So while it would have been funky to live in this cobbled up house, I must admit it's not mine. I'll replace this photo with a more appropriate one when I have the time. -
Norman Caldwell gave props (5 Dec 2008):
I'm not sure I would interpret it that strictly... it says "capture a home close to your heart." but it's your call. my vote anyway if you keep it!

Winston Baltasar said (5 Dec 2008):
Wow, thanks, guys! I would like to keep it because that cobbled together house is at the heart of many of our houses, buildings and other constructions here in the Philippines.
To be sure, I'll check with the moderators. Thanks again! -

Christi of JPG emailed back and said:
"I think the photo doesn't have to be of your own home,
but I do think the photos that do best will have a story or some
interesting information you can share about what makes the home unique.
I'll try and edit the description to make it a bit clearer."
So I guess my photo stays as is. Thanks everyone for the comments, props and votes! -

Pricilla, muchas gracias por los palabras genial. No hablo espanol mucho ahora pero puedo entender mucho. Porque las Filipinas estaban la ultima colonia de Espana.
Frank, Tosin, Sherry and everyone elso who commented and voted, thanks for the appreciation.
Fortunately, here in the Tropics, we don't have snow, otherwise a lot of people would freeze to death. -
Jon-Erik Kroon gave props (9 Dec 2008):
Excellent photo document as art..it speaks of an area so poor....there is no nails used in the construction..a house of found objects!

Born as a white person in South Africa, I witnessed many scenes like this in the black townships.. except they were PERMANENT dwellings. The photo evokes a sense of poignancy and reflection on the human condition of poverty. I love the title, which is so paradoxical -it says it all!

Winston, I'm so glad you kept this image for this entry. I lived in the Philippines for two years and over six in Thailand. I often saw housing like this.

This is a wonderful capture of a unique structure. If I am reading your description correctly, it is supposed to be temporary. Even so, if it is lived in for even a short period of time, it is a house. Voting yeah.
