In South India, the first bite a baby get is at the appointed moment - fixed as per the almanac and baby's horoscope.

Here my parents giving my son his first bite of rice. Wife holding on to my son while my daughter intently watches. As it is his first bite, a sweet rice pudding is made with cardimon and is fed through a gold ring.
Mango leaves in India are put near the doors and also the God's place to symbolize festival atmosphere. Real meaning, I don't know.

Such beautiful rituals connect us to life's cycle. This captures such a joyful sweet moment and the colors and happy expressions make me smile myself.
