L'Ours Blanc
by: François Pompon (1855-1933)
Francois Pompon was a French sculptor who initially worked mostly as an assitant to other artists, including Rodin. After he created his sculpture Polar Bear and displayed it at the 1922 Salon d’Automne, he began receiving more recognition for his work and gaining popularity. His work was highly reproduced and he was considered one of the greatest animal sculptors of his day.
