I wish wood could talk.
I realize this is not a pretty or colorful shot. I did this in night vision mode, simply for the fact that so much of the chairs past is dark to me. It belong to my grandpa. I can only remember seeing him confined to a bed. The last time I saw him I was 5yrs. old, that was 45yrs. ago. He lived in Kansas and was in the law profession. The sad part is you don't realize the importance of things like this when your 18 or 19, at least I didn't. Now I wish I knew more, but there is no one to ask. The chair itself has to be at least 70 yrs old. We still use it at our computer.

So true. I wish my Grand"Mother" was still here so I can ask her all those questions I didn't.

I love the photo effect and the story. Ain't we glad that sometimes an object can remind us of something very memorable?

Michael, truly nice B&W, its a direct shot of nothing but the chair but has so much character and texture, gives warm touching effect, even w/o reading the story I was intrigued by the wire reinforcements und the chair. Do you know if it was part of the original design or added later for stability.

mayette, I'm sure it was added for stability.

Great entry and wonderful story to go with it. Your statement about "having no one left to ask", is exactly the boat I'm in.

... I can relate to this also Michael. We are THE Generation now. Those of us whose parents have gone. Such a life time of memories in the grain of a chair.
Love the black and white tones, and the warmth of the wood.
Love it. -

Michael, I am sitting in a chair that matches that one right now! Small world. Mine doesn't have the sentimental value of yours, just another antique.

This is a beautiful and wonderful entry. All of us 50 and over probably have similar stories of unanswered questions. I love the symbolism of the chair in the darkness. To me, Michael, this is one of your most meaningful entries.

Mike, I agree with Judy precisely. My grandfather passed when I was just 2. My only memories are a few faded photographs and a shaving mug. I well understand how you feel, my friend! Great shot and text-- from the heart!

What a great chair! You may not know all of it's history, but you have the chair...and I would not be surprised if one day you take a look at that chair and remember a tad more......just maybe
