Bernadette's chair

This simple, inexpensive plastic chair is my sister Bernadette's favourite.

Bernadette is in her early 70s and she sits on it every night to watch TV - even though there is a sofa next to it and even though one of the legs is already giving way and the chair depresses somewhat when sat on.

This image was captured some years ago before the sofa moved in.

While working late at the computer one night, I noticed the shadows cast by light coming in from outside.

I set up my tripod - it was one of those very rare occasions that I did so - and experimented with a series of very long exposures, from a few seconds to a few minutes.
