Every summer, every day at 4:30 in the morning, my cousins awake. They run to the lavender field with buckets and sickles to cut, pick and gather the fragrant, violet flowers before the hot Eastern Washington sun becomes too unbearable to continue. As the sun rises, the honey bees return to work and their hum is multiplied by the thousands. It's almost deafening, but in a good way. Being 30 miles away from the nearest city gives anyone the chance to escape both physically and mentally from the industrial, smog-field streets. Take a deep breath, get your hands dirty and don't mind the bees - They won't bother you as they have better things to do.
