Once a year on November 1st, All Souls Day, the Filipino community of Granada, Negros Occidental, and many others, spend the day (and night) remembering the lives of their deceased loved ones. Catholic Mass, candle lighting, live music, and dinner amongst the dead, are all part of the days agenda.
My host brother noticed me gazing curiously at the tallest stack of tombs, and without hesitation he started climbing - I followed swiftly behind. He told me he hadn't been to the top since he was a kid.
