I was fortunate to be able to hold two short-term internships in Washington, D.C., when I was in college. Although I was able to know the city intimately in my short time there, I nevertheless felt like I toed the line between "tourist" and "resident." This photo, taken at D.C.'s Eastern Market, evokes some of that feeling for me; how, despite paying the rent in a given city, we can often find places within them that strike us as positively foreign.
